We're still here - and still unpacking. It's quite a task to unpack with Jack awake and running about. Especially in the upper levels of the house when he's in the den. We have 3 different sets of stairs here - so no matter what level you're on - there are stairs for Jack to be on. The excitement of going up & down them has not worn off yet (hopefully soon) The plus to all of the stairs climbing I'm doing chasing Jack, and sorting boxes is that I'm going to have insane calf muscles. Our (husband & myself) legs were sore from all the climbing for the first couple of days we've been here.
We bought an old house. It has good bones, but apparently not very good plumbing. It had been empty for so long that the plumbing was all backed up or just not working due to rusty/corroded pipes etc. We haven't been able to use our washer to do laundry in over a week! The first time I tried - the before mentioned troublesome pipes FLOODED our entire laundry room. Which happens to be in our den, so parts of the den carpet were soaked too! it was a mess and we've spent the last week or so dealing with plumbers trying to replace ENTIRE sections of pipes inside the walls. Manually washing clothes for a week sucks - especially if you have a toddler who goes through clothes like no tomorrow..or like you have a washer that washes them for you.
We have a very green backyard. As in it's got a lot of trees, and bushes/plant life. This attracts bugs. Lots of bugs but main source of our problem are mosquitos. They're nearly eating us alive no matter what time we're out there. We've got to find something to put out there to save us because getting 8 bites in a matter of 5 minutes is not working for us.
We have hardwood floors in 95% of the house (bathrooms, kitchen, and den excluded) and even though we were told the floors had been refurbished/cleaned etc they're so gritty! I sweep numerous times a day, and have wiped these floors down too many times to count but theyre always gritty (dirt from shoes, dust, etc) and our feet are always BLACK! I have used a few hardwood floor cleaners & just plain old rags & cold water - on my hands and knees (and with a mop) but our feet have yet to be less dirty the moment we wake up. Help? any suggestions on how to get it clean?!
- so that's what we're dealing with right now. It's not all bad though, there are a lot of things I am grateful for regarding this house & our decision to move here. I'm reminding myself of those things daily.
